IST-AC (Institut Supérieur de Technologie d’Afrique
Centrale) is a higher education institution, part of the Catholic University of
Central Africa,(UCAC, whose headquarters are in Yaoundé, Cameroon) ; Management
of IST-AC is entrusted to ICAM, a French engineering Institute (Institut Catholique
d’Arts et Métiers, 3000 students, 600 Master’s Degree each year)
, whose values are Confidence, Freedom, Responsibility and Solidarity.
The main objective assigned to IST-AC is to train, in Africa and for Africa, technicians and engineers professionally skilled and socially aware ,
in regard to their duties. Inspired by educational principles of Icam, IST-AC offers hands-on training, with both theoretical knowledge and practical
experience, getting students ready for work and for management in companies. Responding to companies’ needs, in particular to human
resources’ needs , giving young people opportunities to get better qualifications are the main features of IST-AC programs, addressed to all countries
in Central Africa area : Angola, Cameroon, Congo, Gabon, CAR, DRC, Tchad.
Open since 2002, the campus in Pointe Noire (Congo) welcomes the first two-year cycle of the engineering training
, with a program focused on Industrial Maintenance; candidates’ applications come from all the above mentioned countries.
The campus also offers a sandwich course (cooperative technician training) directed towards the job market, and training for working professionals.
Open since 2004, the campus in Douala (Cameroon) welcomes students coming from Point Noire, selected for the
second cycle engineering training . This program is a cooperative program, which means that students spend half of their time
in school and the other half working in industry ; during the period in industry, they gradually discover the tasks and duties of engineers.
This three-year training is also open to external two-year Degree students in industrial (mechanical or manufacturing) engineering,
and to working professionals with experience, selected from within their company.
The Campus also offers companies specific professional training and studies focused on improving industrial process and tools.
IST-AC engineering training covers many fields, so that engineers may easily join any kind of industrial activity
(60 % of engineering disciplines, 20% in industrial management, 20 % in communication and management )
About hundred engineers have already graduated (2007, 2008, 2009) ;
150 training contracts , with nearly one hundred companies are now running ; and IST-AC welcomes in total 240 students
(20% of women), with five nationalities represented ; fifteen professional training sessions have been carried out.
Important human help and material means have been developed on each campus to promote development,
coming from all types of organizations and companies, national and international: management jobs, space for teaching and labs,
equipment for labs, dormitories for students, teaching staff…Substantial building projects are now being looked
at in Douala and Pointe Noire and there is hope that, soon, 60 engineers will graduate each year, and find a job in Central Africa.
